Prof.Maria E. Orlowska

Since September 1990, Prof Orlowska holds a position as Professor of Information Systems in the School of ITEE, the University of Queensland, and is currently the head of the research division of Data & Knowledge Engineering. Since August 2004 she is acting as Network Convenor for the ARC Research Network on Enterprise Information Infrastructure. She served as a Board Member of the Australian Research Council (ARC), and also acted on the Expert Advisory Committee for ARC. The overall international recognition has been demonstrated by her election as a trustee of Very Large Databases Endowment (VLDB). In March 2003, she was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and very recently appointed as a Full Professor at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology in Warsaw.

Her research covers a diverse range of considerations; from pure theoretical and fundamental contributions to applied and experimental computing issues. Her research has impacted on a number of areas in IT field, including: Relational Database Theory, Distributed Database Systems, Integration of Database Systems into Multi-database Systems, Data Warehousing and Data Mining and Business Process Management. Her contributions appear in over 290 published research papers in reviewed international journals and conferences. To date she has served on over 150 Program Committees of international conferences, and also undertaking major conference roles like PC Chair, General Chair for over 50 international conferences.
